S**t just got real with the “cocky” trademark issue or “cockygate” and if you’d like to own your copy of Cocktales: Cocky Collective by authors who take cocky-ness to a whole new level, best to preorder your copy now before its release at midnight, May 26, which happens to be MY birthday.
So yes, I’m getting this at midnight PST time for my birthday (pressie #2 to myself) and I sure hope no restraining order is going to stop it from getting there.

A bit more information about Cocktales from the description:
Cocktales is a limited-release anthology (available only from May 26 – August 26, 2018) of original, never before published material, some of which is raw and unedited. Each story was specifically written for this anthology.
The goal of the Cocktales Anthology is to raise funds to fight against obstruction of creative expression. Specifically, what we believe are obstruction attempts through the trademarking of common (single) words for titicular use in books / or as a book series (eBooks, print, and audio).
ALL net profits will be donated to:
1) Authors already impacted by creative-obstruction (10%), and
2) Romance Writers of America (RWA) (90%) as a general donation intended for their Advocacy Fund.
Disclaimer: This anthology is not being conducted on behalf of RWA, nor does RWA endorse this anthology or effort. They have, however, graciously agreed to accept the funds.

I hope it works. Seems so absurd to be able to “trademark” single words.

Yup, and this morning “dare,” “encounter,” “outbreak,” too. The list goes on and I guess I’ll just wait until someone trademarks one of the words I use in my books LOL

Wow. How can intelligent people allow and participate in this?

This is ridiculous. I bought three paperback copies. I’ve mostly been silent, waiting for this to play out, but enough is enough. We need to stand up for our rights as authors and our creative expression. Not being able to title our books the way we want can damage our discoverability and SEO. I’m glad the RWA has our backs, but I’m afraid it won’t be enough.

Thanks so much for supporting the cause and for retweeting my blog post. It’s been crazy ever since this started and with the many other TMs being submitted, it’s gotten to the point where I just go, what’s the use? Have money, TM away seems to be these authors’ rationale under the guise of “protecting their brand” or series.
The latest one that is bugging me is “shifter world” even though her series has a unique name and she just decided, “Hey, I’ll change it to Shifter World: Blah blah whatever,” because apparently, that’s now her series name and it’s been retroactive since 2015 or whenever. She’s got over 6 lawyers listed on the form and why is only for one reason.
It’s sickening that many authors I thought were decent aren’t at all.

I wonder how long this will go on. Surely someone with enough clout to make it important will say, ENOUGH!!

It looks like it’s going to go on and on and now they’re doing it under “protecting” their brand.

Yes, bullshit. Keep nodding, they’re still looking.

It’s crazy. Liz the author is going to go underground after Sawyer’s story and write those dark romance stories under a new name. Logo only this time, no more faces on websites. Been there, done that, wrote the book LOL

What a crazy twist….oi, can’t wait for Dev and Luna. I want to know what went on in that burned out church, dammit!!

Guess what! Even though I can format my own stories, guess who has a pressbooks page just waiting for Dev and Luna to go all dark romance? They’re having a 50% off sale.

it’s still private because it will get a full overhaul! But it’ll be the same Dev and Luna, just darker maybe. Historical BDSM at its finest LOL
