Between June 2 and today, I wrote 15K words, over 3K of it steamy stuff… or smut. Seriously – and it wasn’t as bad as I thought.
Needless to say, don’t come to my house because it’s a mess. I haven’t had time to tidy up. When my son’s regional rep called me to ask about behavioral therapy for the summer, I couldn’t even think straight because I was editing the book, making sure that all the I’s were dotted and the T’s crossed. Oh, and I was in the middle of making sure that all the anatomical parts were correct and the positions didn’t require any Cirque du Soleil certifications.
“She’s really flexible,” my beta reader wrote in the comments and I thought, well, it can be done but maybe that’s just me, although I’d probably have a cramp if I attempted it now.
I’ve never concentrated this hard on writing smut. It’s actually not as easy as it looks. But you know what? Writing smut isn’t as bad as it seems. If it’s part of the story like sex is in normal lives, it makes the story flow so much better.
Now not all my stories have heavy descriptions of the act. Some of them fade to black, and some kinda mention it but probably in less than 50 words. This Kindle World I’m tackling is erotic romance and so sex is a big part of the storyline. I’ve actually tried skipping over the sex scenes when I was reading it only to find myself going back because parts of the plot were in there.
Now that takes skill to achieve. I think I’m working on getting on that level myself, so wish me luck.
Oh, yeah, and this was my inspiration writing all those 15K words in 5 days. It wasn’t too bad actually…
And if you want to check out the “world” I’m talking about, you can download Alphas by CD Reiss, which is FREE on iBooks. Get to know Jonathan Drazen, Antonio Spinelli, Deacon Bruce, and Dash Wallace (I haven’t met Dash yet though).
Four Alpha Obsessions.
Four novels.
Four ways to fall in love.

Sounds great!

I once tried to write a novel– I know how difficult it can be to move forward and put words on paper. You did very well for such a short time period. And I love that you call it smut!

Right now it’s a novelette because of the 15K word count, but for a novelette, it has a lot of smut, like 3k – 4k words LOL but my friend, a fellow author, told me she wished there was one more encounter.
One thing about writing stories like these is short is the new black. Most of the steamy stories go between 10K to 20K words. One author I know does it in 5K word increments – 5K words per encounter between her heroine and the hero. I think I understand why. Even reading, one might need to catch their breath LOL

That’s awesome, Liz! And it sounds wonderful. I’d love to read. I’ll have to check out the world. I love CD Reiss. Will your work be there too? I have no idea how it works, I’ve never been there.
