Cover Changes

It’s raining here in Southern California today and the tree next door is making me nervous.  It’s over four floors tall and I’m just praying that its roots are strong because this wind is something crazy!

So while the wind howled and the rain came down today – and still coming down – I decided to keep myself busy. I should have been editing, but of course, I didn’t do that.  I decided to change the cover of one of my books instead.

A Collateral Attraction is romantic suspense that’s a bit heavy on the chick lit at times, although I eliminated over 16K words of that in the last overhaul.  But for some reason, it’s not getting any attention unlike my other books so I figured maybe the cover is just too busy.  I mean, it’s got a gorgeous couple on the top half of the cover and then… a private plane at the bottom half.  Of course, there’s a plane in the book, but I wonder if it’s just way too much imagery when all I need, first and foremost, is to depict emotion.

So after about an hour or playing with layouts and images, I finally settled for this one:

It’s a stock photo, and probably one you’ve seen on countless covers, but my goal for this is to catch a casual browser’s eye.  What do you think? Does it say romance? Suspense? Romantic suspense? Or none of the above?

And I also redid the confusing description, too:

Identical twin sisters, rival billionaire brothers, and a deadly web of lies.

Small-town shop owner Billie Delphine is nothing like her glamorous twin sister, Blythe, who’s living the life in New York City and is dating billionaire polo player, Ethan Kheiron. But when Blythe is accused of a crime Billie knows her sister did not commit, she will need to step out of her comfort zone and into her sister’s shoes especially when Ethan’s “all work and no play” younger brother, Heath Kheiron, will stop at nothing to bring Blythe to justice.

But there’s more than meets the eye in the deadly game of cat and mouse, corporate theft and family secrets that Billie finds herself in. For sibling rivalry threatens to destroy what little trust the sisters have left for each other and somewhere, someone will stop at nothing to claim everything they believe they deserve.
